So, this week, as the movie I keep meaning to watch but never get around to, I picked Reservoir Dogs. Put out in 1992 by Quentin Tarantino, this movie has been in my possession for at least seven years, if not longer. I purchased this at A&B Sound during a Boxing Day sale. I did sit down to try to watch it once before but as I recall, I got bored.
When Grindhouse came out and Quentin Tarantino defended his half of the movie by saying “Well, yeah, it’s a movie where people stand around and talk. That’s what all my movies are.” I didn’t really see it. My experience with his movies were Pulp Fiction and both the Kill Bill movies.
Having watched this and read that quote, it makes sense now.
I thoroughly enjoyed everyone’s performance in this. Tim Roth was far and away my favourite, but Chris Penn always comes in a close second. Really, this is a movie where if you changed one of the elements, like casting John Malkovich instead of Michael Madsen, you wouldn’t have ended up with the same movie. (Comparison used because of the portrayal of Cyrus the Virus in Con-Air. I think he would’ve done well, but he wouldn’t have nailed it.)
Overall, a movie slot not wasted.
